The MTick: your menopause support

What is the menopause?

Menopause. For many, even hearing the word can spark feelings of fear and uncertainty. Why? Because despite being a natural life stage, it’s still cloaked in myth and confusion. Understanding what’s happening in your body – and knowing where to find trusted support – can make all the difference.

What is the menopause?

It’s defined as the point in time when you have gone 12 consecutive months without a menstrual period.1 It is a completely natural chapter of life and the average age to experience menopause in the UK is 51 years.2 Hormonal changes during this time can bring a mix of physical and emotional challenges. Some of the most well-known symptoms include:

·         Hot flashes

·         Night sweats

·         Difficulty sleeping

·         Mood swings or mild depression

·         Vaginal dryness that causes discomfort during sex

·         Urinary urgency3

Every menopause experience is unique, and there are symptoms that can fly under the radar, so it’s a good idea to start tracking changes with a diary. According to GenM – the menopause partner for brands – there are 48 recognised signs of menopause, including acne, breathing difficulties, dry eyes, joint pain, sore breasts and brain fog.4

Who are GenM?

GenM is a collective founded in 2021 by friends Heather Jackson and Sam Simister, born out of frustration with the lack of information and support available. They conducted research and published the Invisibility Report, which revealed that 41% of women going through the menopause felt ‘lonely, invisible, irrelevant or dispensable’, and 87% said they thought mid-life women were overlooked by society and brands.5

Inspired by these findings, GenM partnered one of the UK’s leading beauty and pharmaceutical retailers – to create the MTick, a menopause-friendly seal backed by rigorous certification standards and strict criteria, making it easier for women to find the right support. Since then, GenM has gone on to collaborate with thousands of purposeful brands united by a shared vision to transform the menopause experience.

What does MTick mean for you?

MTick-certified means a product has been independently verified by GenM for supporting one or more of the 48 known signs of menopause. Think of it like your shortcut to confidence – a trusted symbol that guarantees the product is designed to support your wellbeing during this transformational life stage. GenM’s vision is that by 2030, the MTick symbol will be as recognisable as the vegan & vegetarian V-Label* and as purposeful as B Corp** in how it transforms society’s perceptions and support of menopause.
